Save the Date, Medioevalis Style

Helped a client out with the image and printed his design for him and his fiance. Printed these last Sunday:

They provided the design and the paper: deckle-edge European flats ("Medioevalis"); our first time printing on them. The paper resembles watercolor paper, actually- textured and stiff, and took the punch nicely. Looking into setting up an account with a wholesaler and maybe we can carry these in our line.

What do you think? Are there any papers you'd like to see in our regular collection? Currently we use Crane's Lettra and WNP's Luxe, and of course any random pretties I come across to try out. There's a wool paper i'd like, but it's rather $$$. But any suggestions? Let us know : )

At present, the xoxo patterned heart card is the only item available on Etsy, but others will be up this weekend. If you're in Austin, you can find most of these items at Flock Gifts, and all of them will be at the Austin Flea with us on 2/11.

Save the Dates

Save the Dates are a great way to get people excited about an upcoming wedding and to alert those of the date, especially if they live out of town or it's a destination wedding. We've done flat cards, received magnets, but this was new:

A bride contacted us wanting a card with just "Please inflate the balloon." across the top, and two small holes punched below that. She was having balloons printed with the wedding information and those will be tied onto the cards. How fun! Our bride selected gold ink, pearl cotton cards, and gold envelopes. The text is handset 10pt type.

I think they turned out great! Hope she loves them, and that she shares a picture of them with balloons attached.

Almost EVERYTHING in inviting's inventory is listed on Etsy! There's a small stack next to my desk that needs photo-editing and listing, and an even smaller stack that needs photographing, but I think I can have it all done this weekend.

Can you spy the small stack that needs listing? It's so small!

Silly things about my desk:
: I still haven't finished switching out my drawer pulls. I consider it amazing that I finally finished painting the walls!
: Yes, I was drinking prosecco. You can't drink while printing, but no rules against drinking while editing photos and listings
: On the ipad, streaming X-Files. It's great background and netflix had better never pull it off streaming; i don't know what i'd do!
: SMENCILS
: I like year-round halloween decorations. Skulls are 24/7 at our house.

Been working hard in my study getting it organized and tidied. Still have a ways to go, but with such a tiny desk

We're Almost Done...

...with 2011! While it's been a great year, I'm still exhausted and am ready for the fresh start that is 2012.

Hope everyone's winter holidays have been delightful and festive. Our Xmas was fun, but I'm ready for the quiet that is January.

Here are our "kids" on Xmas Eve:

They'll be sad when the tree comes down this weekend, but I need the space. Traditional trees take up a lot of real estate!

How are you spending your New Year's Eve? We used to throw parties, but since moving to the house, haven't. Maybe next year. I'll budget my time better and channel my inner Martha. Maybe.

Since there's no party, I will be planning for 2012. Goals, ideas, and cards. All good things. Have some ideas for Valentine's day but as always- if there's something you're looking for, or you have an idea you'd like to see at our next event (possibly at Austin Flea 2/11/11- we'll keep you posted), don't hesitate to email us!

It's time for the Austin Craft Riot's Holiday Show, and it's inviting's first time participating!

I'm excited and anxious at the same time. Never done a show so large. Do I have enough product? Do I have the right product? What if people don't like it? See? Anxious. But I know that I don't need to worry- it'll be lots of fun. And I'm getting "in the spirit" by listening to my holiday Pandora station.

You know that when you're bending your wrists in funny positions to use your laptop b/c you've got crafting supplies and projects taking up the entire desk, it is time to get a proper work space / crafting table. I had ribbons, bakers twine, scissors, circle cutters, corner rounders, paper samples, paper scraps and about ten other projects taking up space on the tiny vintage writing desk that I use.

So I ordered this.

Which, after ninety minutes, turned into this.

So far, so good.

Of course, to make room for it, I had to move the cabinet out to the living room! But with the paper that I covered the windowed cabinets with, you can't even tell.

Also, does this count as working on my branding?

Flickr, Inks, Etc

We've had a flickr account for years, but have finally upgraded to "Pro," and uploaded quite a few photos as well! There should be some newer items (many also showing on our Etsy page) floating around the slideshow.

And while I've been getting to know the camera a little better, here's a more accurate version of our ink options. Most of our cards can be reprinted in the ink color of your choosing, don't forget.

We've been participating in Etsy's Holiday Bootcamp, buddying up with our friend at Speckled Duck, and the To Do list is growing rapidly, but also many things are being crossed off, like the Flickr account upgrade, new photos, etc.

Oh! And we just found out this morning that we were accepted to the Cherrywood Art Fair!

Looks like we'll go for it, though we have a week to either pay or change our minds... Leaning towards yes.

Happiness is a Cool Print Studio

A whole day of no a/c? Yes! Finally-both in the house and the studio. Such a wonderful Saturday.

Printed lots of cards, coasters & bookmarks in black in (coming soon!), orange leafy cards, and made progress on the Tidying Up project. It was such a great day!

Here's a picture from Sept 24th's printing session. Pictures from Oct 1st haven't been taken yet.

Fun with Aqua! (The color, not the band.) A2 swirlies.

As it turns out, we have over 113 metal fonts! Some of these have been seen on our smaller specimen sheets and on personalized cards, but others, like copperplate calligraphy in two sizes, we've never pulled a print before.

Now that October's here, the Halloween decorations are up in our house. If you're looking for Halloween stationery, be sure to check out our Halloween section on Etsy. Invitations, flat and folded cards. Skulls, spiders, Edward Gorey umbrellas, and angry kitties. Also, if you need some holiday inspiration, I recommend "Aunt Martha's" ideas and Pinterest- the members there really have a nice collection of ideas found all across the web.

Sigh. There's a little stress-monkey in my head, worrying about the upcoming shows. Not only do we need enough product, but also the right product.

Poor neglected blog...

Sorry for the lack of posts. Every free moment has been spent in the printshop, and not even printing! I've been tackling all those "rainy day" projects- bags of miscellaneous type leftover from er three years ago, a dump tin of misc. type from the previous owner, etc. Cleaning, re-labeling, re-sizing, also.
It's been wonderful.

There's still a lot to do, but one corner is complete.

Paper drawers, organized. Space drawers, organized. Tops of cabinets, wiped down. Items on shelves, labeled.

I've also discovered that we had some duplicate fonts- same exact type but different names- Flash and Highspot in both 18 and 24pts. Uh, let's consolidate? Yeah! Those are done, so now I'm saving type that is stuck in large, heavy, broken drawers, transferring them to the newly emptied drawers. It's messy, but will be very helpful in the end.

Found a brand new, never taken out of it's original packaging, 6pt font, which I will be selling on etsy later. It's lovely, I just don't like dealing with 6pt unless I have to. Personal preference.

Tomorrow is Oct 1 (Happy Bday, Grandma P) and that means time for another Shop Update!

After a weekend of shows, the calendar is now empty until Craft Riot in November.

It's weird.

But it's good- I'll get back in the print shop and come up with some fun holiday-gift items. And of course, if any events come up, I will consider them. I am sure there will be another Austin Flea before Craft Riot, and those are always fun.

Also, now I can start working on a wedding invitation set due this fall!

And tomorrow:

There are a few sets that expired a while back that have been re-visited, and also some new items, including the aqua/tiffany blue cards that I printed on Monday.

Aren't they cute? Wee little enclosure cards / place cards. (A departure from the halloween cards that I've been printing, I know!)

Adding Personalization

Custom and personalized cards are probably my favorite things to print, and the past two Saturdays I was thrilled to print them!

No picture uploaded of the last week's custom order, of which the client left feedback saying it is "Really quite special" but here is today's personalization:

Text was printed in Century Roman, in red to match the envelopes.

Our client requested a name be added to the Gorey-inspired umbrella cards that were for sale on our etsy shop, which I was happy to do. If you ever see a set of cards that you might like personalized- just ask! If I can do it, I will.

Also...

There are ~~quite a few~~ lots of items waiting to be added to the shop! A few more Halloween items, including new spider cards, some revisited designs, some newer ones only seen at our local events, and some completely new ones.

We've been busy. And it's been wonderful.

Don't know about y'all, but I am wiped out over here at inviting-central! Between the sun, the heat, spending the weekend selling cards at a mall, and planning ahead for the fall and winter... Yeah, that's a lot. But it's going to be wonderful. Really.

Saturday is Austin Flea

Very excited about Saturday- it will be our second time participating in Austin Flea! Such a fun group of people, and this time The Highball will have its Brunch menu and drink specials going on!

We'll have a basket of Halloweenish items, including our fill-in gothic invitations, skull cards, and large spider cards and another basket of great gift items. These are the things that will be perfect in your gift box/shelf/closet for last minute hostess gifts, like recipe cards, coasters, and our Call Me cards, which are now available in pink!

And we also have some swanky fill-in Let's Celebrate cards in red, green and pink inks. The pinks are *perfect* for bridal showers and girlie parties. These cards will be on etsy by the end of the month, so if you can't make it to the Austin Flea or Burnet Market (on 7/30 from 9-1), you can always order them.

Bastille Day Sale

Starting tonight, and ending when I get out of bed on Friday (about 6am, central), prices on our french-inspired stationery are reduced by 20%. Woohoo!

If you're like me, maybe you start purchasing holiday gifts in the summer to make the winter less stressful. The damasks and Eiffel Towers would be perfect, and they come in an easy to wrap box. The coasters make great host/ess gifts. And the Mercis are just good to have in your stationery draw. You can never have too many thank you cards. Some of the Mercis come with lined envelopes, too. And it is going to rock.

A) it's at The Highball- swanky! If you haven't been yet, go. Maybe Saturday afternoon?
B) The Highball has skeeball. Sure it's got bowling, video games, karaoke, and a good bar, but skeeball! And no screaming children or mechanical animals singing!
C and most importantly) A group of local artisans selling their goods. There should be a great mix of items!
This is inviting's first South Austin showing and we're super excited about it.

Holiday Sneak Peak

A re-styling of last year's snowflake. The text and style have changed, and the ink is a fabulous bronze (our signature chocolate with some metallic gold added). Very excited about these.

Scary Spiders and Cooler Temperatures

Got in the print shop at 7:30 this morning and when I turned on the a/c unit the current temp was 89! Half an hour later, came back in and it was a nice 80! After 2 hours of printing, the temp only got to 83- not bad!

It was a very successful printing morning...

...which led to some scary spiders:

I had this plate made back in January and am finally using it!
It printed far better than I expected- so nice when that happens.

It's downright elegant! Not scary at all.
Unless you *really* hate spiders.

Reply Cards & August's Giveaway

Quick and Painless Personalization

A couple weeks ago we had an etsy sale and the client wanted the items personalized, plus a set of cards with her friend's name only. We opened the boxed sets, printed the personalization with matching ink in the fonts selected by the client, and shipped them off quickly. She ordered Thursday night, printing was on Saturday, and they were shipped out on Monday.

When looking at our etsy page, if there's anything you'd like personalized, don't hesitate to ask. If we can do it, we gladly will. : )

When printing these, because the dragon is from a very worn vintage print block, I kept hearing the Weasley Twins' "All rright, Dragon!!" (from Harry Potter 4) playing in my head whenever I got a good print. Silliness, I know...

These are A2 white flats with a bold orange dragon. (Comes with a shimmery copper envelope- you'll need to use a gel pen, metallic ink marker, or a label for addressing it.)

2009 was a good year for inviting- the letterpress got a new home, we did 4 weddings and had several smaller jobs on etsy and off.

Busy Fall...

Hello! It's been forever since I've posted! Bad.

The press was running constantly (or so it felt) last weekend, printing out wedding invitations for 2 couples. Here's a picture of one of them! (The stationery, not the couple.)

Also, re-packaged some Thank You notes. These flats are now available with the envelopes you see here. Click on the picture to be taken to the store.

And what are we up to now? Well holiday things of course! Am finishing up a celebratory design, and pondering another. We'll get those printed in November.

Hot off the press:

This fall, recipe cards are something we'll be making more of. When sharing holiday dishes with the office or neighbors, it's always nice to include a recipe so that they may recreate it. Much nicer than a computer printout, no? They're a nice, traditional way of sharing, and our little image sure is cute!

The metal type is Lydian, one we've never used before, but is in great condition with it's clean angular form. Little produce image was found in our type accessories drawer.

We can customize these for you, different inks, add a name, etc. Just contact us at rsvp at shopinviting dot com

Don't know about you, but fall can't get here fast enough!

Multi-Color Printing

Did our first multi-color print job (not really a job though, just our business cards) Saturday morning; a three-color run.

We're ready for Halloween, how about you? (Yes, we're aware it's only August, but honestly, it will be here before we know it, and you need to be prepared.) : )

The type is handset Old English, for a gothtastic look. (Is that a word? Gothtastic? It should be.) For being so old, the type made beautifully crisp lines and left a lovely impression. See?

Cards are A2 sized, comes with matching envelopes (with smaller skull in upper corner), and are available in sets of 8 on our etsy page.

Printing Complete!

The Saturday-Work day started about 9am and we started with the invitations. The tree proved to be difficult, getting an even inking and strong punch (something we had to give up on- the leaves were not letting it happen), but the rest were fairly trouble free to print. Overall, we're quite happy with them!

I'm really pleased with how well the Edwardian Script printed. Very delicate!

Some nice neighbors are getting married in the fall and we volunteered to do their wedding invitations. The only instruction we received was "a big tree would be nice."

Materials have been ordered and production should begin within 2 weeks.

Today the press get hauled up on a tow truck and makes the journey from Kyle to Austin. And then it will sit on the driveway until a machine arrives later in the afternoon. Cross your fingers that everything goes smoothly...

The goal is to use the converted carport as the new printing studio but there's quite a large problem- the press won't fit through the door. Thanks to the help of a wonderful uncle, that is no longer the issue! He came down from Dallas and in one evening and added some french doors to the side of the studio. In one evening!

We decided to announce our presence to some local shops in Austin by delivering a set of winter cards to the employees. The overall reception was very positive and encouraging. New Year, New Beginnings

Blog:
Switched hosts. Old blog is still available here, but decided to change. I find blogger is easier to use, with more options.

Logo:
I realized that the nice gray we previously used just didn't *pop* enough and suggested brown. Boy was that a good call! We also upped the boldness of the pink and orange and the bubbles have morphed a bit too. New business cards will be printed this month.

Shop:
Are in the process of opening a store front on Etsy. For the foreseeable future, that will be our shop. Feel free to email us directly for custom jobs though. Payments are processed through PayPal, but we can also take check or money order.

Miscellaneous:
If we come across some fonts or cuts to sell in our printshop, we'll post those here. We're in the process of cleaning out some trays from the previous owner and will likely have much to sell.
Our pricing list is complete so getting quotes to you will be much quicker. (Excel does rule.)
We'll post things not only related to letterpress and inviting, but also etiquette, gift ideas & wrapping tips, and some recipes for parties.
